Now that we've covered "Louisville 101", the next legitimate question is -- what's up with the name?
Well, we wanted to come up with a blog title that conveyed this idea: two California kids (born and raised) running around, having random adventures while trying to survive life in the state of Kentucky.
So, the original name we were going to use for the blog was "From Sunshine to Bluegrass", derived from what we thought to be the two official state nicknames. Unfortunately, the source of my information (one -- Doctor Dre) happened to be inaccurate. Apparently, Dr. Dre was a bit confused when he composed the song "California Love" and referred to California as the "sunshine state". After doing a little research, I found that Florida actually holds that official nickname. (Personally, I think Florida should be called the "Tornado State", but that's another post for another blog...)
It turns out that California's official nickname is the "Golden State". But instead of entitling our blog "From Gold to Bluegrass" or "From Golden to Bluegrass", we wanted to find a way to retain the word "sun" in our blog title, so we opted for "Sunsets".
The reasoning? Well, everyone knows that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. And since you rarely see the sun in Oregon and Washington, I'd say California has a monopoly on all visible sunsets that take place on the west coast of the U.S. (Unless of course you live in San Francisco.) So we chose "Sunsets" to represent California and "Bluegrass" to represent Kentucky. And . . . presto our blog title of choice!
