Family Time - Announcing the News
On Tuesday, Nov 22, 2011, we arranged to have a Skype conversation with Cami's side of the family in which we would announce to them the news of Cami's pregnancy. In order to make it happen, we employed two highly trained professionals -- Chewie and Maximus. After a bit of small talk, we paraded the dogs around with signs around their necks that said, "Hi Grandma" and "Hi Grandpa."
The family laughed and clapped (as if they were truly impressed), but before they could change the subject, we interrupted them and said, "Wait, we have one more!" We then proceeded to take out a picture of the sonogram with a speech bubble coming from it that said, "Hi Grandma and Grandpa!" If memory serves me correctly, there was about a five second silence, followed by a clamoring of, "Wait...what is that?!?" Then the light bulbs started to flicker, first for Chase, next for Lauren and then for Cami's mom after which we exclaimed, "We're expecting!!!"
What followed, in typical Wong-fashion, was a machine-gun like smattering of questions: How did that happen? How far along are you? When's the due date? How are you feeling? When can we come visit? Do you want us to come visit? I have boxes of baby clothes, do you want me to send them? We happily answered their questions (and tried to alleviate most of their concerns) and then said goodbye for the night.
A few days later on Thanksgiving Day, we arranged to have another Skype conversation, this time with my family to announce the news of Cami's pregnancy. While discussing the subject of what we were
thankful for, I listed the following: the cruise and technology. Elaborating on the notion of technology, I said that glad that through technology I was able to talk with Charissa while she’s in China and J while he’s in Irvine. I
added to that, that I was thankful for the technology used to take pictures and then held up the
sonogram to the webcam.
Again, I think J was the first to realize what the
picture was as his eyes opened wide and he let out an excited, "Whaaaat!?!" Dad and mom kept staring at the picture and finally we relieved them of their confusion and said, “Congrats, you’re grandparents!” Dad and mom
both broke out into a loud, “What!?!” followed by huge smiles. Mom immediately wanted to know how long we had known, how far along Cami was and how Cami was feeling. And, Dad and J just sat there grinning from ear-to-ear.
