Week One of Firsts

Yesterday marked exactly one week since our Karis came into the world. Since then it has been a huge learning curve with all of us learning to adapt and figure each other out, but it has been such a wonderful rush! Here is a summary of Karis' first week:

Sunday, June 24- Homecoming

"Looks yummy..."

It was surreal to be coming home from the hospital with her, but exciting at the same time!

First Night

We have her set up in our room in the pack n' play for now. This was before we really knew how to swaddle! The first night was pretty rough, I think we got maybe a total of 3 hours of sleep getting up at all hours to soothe her. Since then starting on Wednesday after figuring out how to properly swaddle and realizing she was cold she has slept wonderfully with a nice 4.5 hours stretch and hardly peeping otherwise. We are so thankful!

First Pediatrician's Appointment

She obviously hated the cold stethoscope, but the doctor said she was doing well (with no jaundice, praise God!). Her birth weight was 6 lb. 12 oz., discharge weight 6 lb. 2 oz., and at her first Peds. appointment her weight was only 5 lb. 15 oz. so we had to come back in on Wednesday to recheck her weight and she was fine at 6 lb. 2 oz. Yay!

First Family Walk

We enjoyed the cool reprieve before the record breaking heat by taking a family walk, pups included. I can already tell I'm going to love these pack walks!

First Bath

Well, technically her second since they washed her off in the hospital. She was not happy with grandma for subjecting her to proper hygiene and thanked us by peeing on the bed!

Our Daily Routine
Every day is a little different as we're still figuring out life together, but for the most part it consists of eating, sleeping, diaper changes and some wake time.

Sleeping peacefully in her Moses basket. She LOVES to put her hands by her face all the time.

Getting burped by Daddy. I love this face, such consternation!

We have been so thankful for Grandma who has been such a help with the dogs, cleaning every nook and cranny, running errands and of course entertaining baby!

All in all it has been a wonderful first week and we daily are learning new ways to depend on the Lord for wisdom and guidance as well as praise Him for His handiwork and blessings upon us through this little soul!
