After the Storm- A Reflection

Well the flurry of driving cross-country, getting acquainted with a new town and unpacking an apartment has settled quite a bit so it seems an apt time to reflect a bit on the big move.

The drive across the country was a wonderful experience and while I'd want to do it again, but with more purpose and more stops, I am really thankful for 1) safety 2) quick travels 3) great traveling buddies 4) good conversation 5) yummy pit stops 6) no tummy problems 7) beautiful scenery. The drive really made the country seem so much smaller and accessible which is a neat feeling because it makes me feel even closer to home and not so distant from everything and everybody. I also loved just looking out the window and seeing different parts of the country with unique landscapes and ways of life (NV excluded, haha).

The transition from itinerant life to a non-nomadic mode was actually also very smooth thanks to the helpful hands of Greg and Oby and the professionalism of PODS. We made a few Target and Costco runs and have a few quirks to still work out (the smoke smell still looms, though it has abated somewhat), but it's now starting to feel like real life and a routine has started to emerge which is good for a strong Type-A such as myself. It has been fun to drive around and look at the different areas and test myself on the geography of the many freeways and lengthy roads and try to outwit the GPS. Also, another great gain is that we have been eating in this whole time which is a huge blessing because I was getting really sick of such rich foods!

This week it's mostly getting some of the smaller things nailed down like stuff for the apartment, getting ready for school (I'm also taking a Biblical Counseling class on Thursday nights, yay for learning!), finding insurance and changing our licenses, etc. Not too interesting so I won't waste more time.

Surprisingly, Greg hasn't found me sobbing in a corner yet, wanting to go home, but to my surprise (and probably his) everything is coming in stride and the overwhelming emotion is wide-eyed wonder and excitement. I consider this a huge blessing from God and see it as more proof that we are following His will to be here in KY. Also, the people here are so friendly and I feel so sure that we are bound to find community both at the seminary and at church such that I don't feel all that lonely or isolated. I'm sure blogging and internet access help as well!

With that, I'm off to run some errands and get to know Louisville a bit more! More updates and pics to come!
