Praise God for His sovereignty over all things!
We went to sleep yesterday night knowing that today would be a long day. Our plan was to wake up and leave our hotel in Liberty, MO by 6am in order to arrive in St. Louis, MO by 10am. We planned to stay in St. Louis for exactly two hours and leave for Louisville, KY by 12 noon in order to get into Louisville by 5pm (4 hours driving plus 1 hour time change). That way we would have an hour long cushion to make it to the apartment office, sit down with our manager and sign all our paperwork before 6pm.
As the title of this post indicates, however, we have had a slight change of plans. We left Liberty at 6:05am but ran into some horrendous traffic on the way. A car had flipped over on the road and we were at a standstill for nearly 20 minutes. Then we got lost for about 10 minutes in St. Louis on the way to the Gateway Arch. We finally arrived at the Arch at around 10:40am, but that extra 40 minutes was just enough time for a pretty sizable line to form. While waiting for our tour to start, Cami and I decided it would just be better to find a hotel in St. Louis and take our time exploring the city.
I'm glad we did! We had a great time taking pictures of the Gateway Arch and the downtown area of St. Louis from atop the Arch. We also had a lot of fun walking around parts of Forest Park (which we have deemed a better/less crowded version of Balboa Park in San Diego -- perfect for engagement/wedding pictures) and even going to a random mall.
Now we're resting at the hotel (well, Oby and Cami are) and pretty soon we're heading back toward downtown for our second round of mid west BBQ! Pappy's smokehouse -- we'll see if it's better than Arthur Bryant's.
Lesson learned: it is a joy to be in the hands of a sovereign God because His plan is infinitely better than mine!
