I woke up this morning to a message from C.H. Spurgeon himself -- "Have a great first day of seminary!"
[Actually, the message was from Cami in the form of a note sitting beneath my new C.H. Spurgeon bobble head. It was a humorous way to start off my life at Southern Seminary. =)]
Anyways, today marked the beginning of my "seminary career" and it started off with a bang -- Elementary Hebrew at 9am! My professor used two sports analogies to describe his class. He began by saying, "I'm coming after you like Lawrence Taylor. All day, everyday. . . and I'm gonna get you." He followed that up by saying, "I don't throw curve balls in this class. I throw heaters. 99 mile an hour heaters." Well. . . at least he has a sense of humor. =P
For those of you who might have been wondering, here is what my class schedule looks like this semester:
- Elementary Hebrew with Russel Fuller
- Biblical Hermeneutics with Stephen Wellum
- History of the Baptists with Gregory Wills
- Intro to Church History, 1 with Michael Haykin
- Theology of the Old Testament with Duane Garrett
I don't have any class on Monday and on Fridays I only have Hebrew from 9-10am. So in some senses, I have a four day weekends! Unfortunately, I don't think my class schedule will allow for me to do much on weekends except study and go to church! (Okay -- maybe Cami and I will be able to make trips to CeFiore for their delicious Green Tea Frozen Yogurt.)
Along with classes Tuesday-Friday, there are two chapel services every week (beginning next week) on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10am. Southern also encourages students to sign up for "Shepherding Groups". These allow for you, plus 5-7 other students, to meet with a specific seminary professor for discussion, accountability and prayer 1-2 times a month. I'm super excited about this opportunity and I can't wait to see which professor I am assigned to!
Other than getting back into the swing of being a student, Cami and I are primarily adjusting to the crazy humidity here (it is 79% as I type) and the really, really long traffic lights. All in all, these are minor adjustments and throughout this moving process we have sees God's amazing faithfulness to us both!
