Hooray!!! WE have made it finally to what we lovingly call, "The L", Louisville itself!!! We arrived just after 3:00, (12:00 west coast time) after driving through Illinois and Indiana. We came straight to our apartment and happily signed all the leasing papers, inspected the apartment and moved what little we had from Ravi (our Rav) to our new home.
Our apartment is a one bedroom, one bath apartment in this complex called Camden Meadows. Hahahaha, Greg says I chose it because I'm conceited, but really Camden is a large company (actually one of the top 100 to work for in the US) that has apartments throughout the US. It had good reviews on apartmentratings.com and after extensive research we decided to go with it. It's about 9 miles and 18 minutes away from the seminary, about 5 exits away. It's a bit far, but it is centerally located a main street which is very close to the Oxmoor and St. Matthew's malls, grocery stores and chain restaurants and...Target (literally across the main road)!! Good for me, bad for Greg and the wallet... Actually the first thing we did after moving in was to make a Target run, hooray! Also, by the grace of God we got furniture! It was increidble, we were just making small talk with the leasing officer when she mentioned they were doing rennovations to the club house. She told us they were getting rid of some chairs and a table and a coffee table. We perked our ears and asked what was to be done with these items. Craigslist was the answer so we asked the price. $75 for the table and chairs, $25 for the coffee table and baskets. Oby started to make huge thumbs ups and wave frantically at us to buy it so we offered check or cash and it was sold! Praise God for His constant and unexpected provisions at every turn! Also we got a $200 discount on rent because Greg is a student, thank you Lord!!
Anyhoo, the apartment is nice and the complex has a small workout room (I'm there right now using the free wifi in the club house), a club house with tea and cookies, an outdoor pool, lighted tennis court and two laundry rooms. The whole complex is rather large, but we've already met a neighbor with a cute puppy and as we were spying we discovered our other neighbor is Asian! Yay, someone to borrow kikoman from! Our actual apartment is fairly sizeable with a fridge, micro, electric stove, AC and the works. It's nice with new carpet, but the biggest downside is that Kentucky is behind 20 years and still allows smoking in all public areas and in apartments. So our apartment greeted us with a lovely smell, but we stocked up on candles, air fresheners and a cool electric air freshener and hopefully we can chase the smell away. Greg says chocolate chip cookies will do the trick, but I think he has ulterior motives....
After moving in and the Target run we tried to visit Colonel Sanders in his bed 6 feet under, but the cemetary was closed! We found a fun international cafe to eat which was interesting and got to walk around Bardstown Rd. (a very hip, happening spot!). We even picked up a pie at a local bakery, but I think we're saving it for later b/c we all just worked out and pie sounds gross right now.
I'm excited to be in Louisville and I'm looking forward to orientation tomorrow. It still seems weird that we now can call Louisville home, but we're both looking forward to visitng U of L and becoming big Louisville Cardinal fans! Exciting times and exciting living! We shall post with pics soon!!! We love you all!
